NHL Lockout 2012: Here we go again

NHL Lockout 2012: Here we go again By Greg Thornberry

Ah the power of greed.

“See, sons, what things you are,
How quickly nature falls into revolt
When gold becomes her object.”

William Shakespeare

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”

Ghandi

“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”

Socrates

“We have always known that heedless self interest was bad morals, we now know that it is bad economics.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.

Bible, Luke 12:15

Today, the hockey world awakens to a collective “I can’t believe this is happening again”.

7 years later history is repeating itself. Sure some of the names and numbers are different, but the results are the same, and will continue to be unless both sides decide to take the high road. Yes greed is the main factor, but both sides want to be right too. There are many large egos in play here.

I truly believe that many of the owners who voted to lockout the players know that this is wrong, but again egos must not be damaged.

As for the NHLPA, this squabble over dollars is fine for the big boys, but what about the role players? What about the players who are there to fill a hole? How do you think they feel about this?

Then there is us, the forgotten fans. Is it greedy of us to want both sides just to take what they have and like it? NO! Those are our dollars they are fighting for. Those are the dollars of factory workers, sales clerks, and taxi drivers who have to work overtime just to be able to buy one of their overpriced tickets.

Overpriced as they are, we don’t complain. Why? Because we love the game. Many fans would work 40 hours of overtime and eat Ramen and hot dogs for a month just to see one game. That is something severely lacking from the people who run the game.

So yes, here we go again. We have not yet learned from our mistakes. He who does not learn from their mistakes…yada, yada, yada, you get the gist.

“Epic fail NHL…epic fail”

Until next time……

This is a message to the fans from the players via the NHLPA YouTube channel. Interesting.
