NHL Lockout:When Will They Meet Again?
Allons-y!
So close, yet apparently so far away.
I don’t typically use emoticons in my articles, but given the mood set by the NHL and PA I think it is appropriate for one to be used.
There we go, I feel better now…..not really.
Over the course of the week, the two sides met with intense and secretive meetings, lending hope to us “average Joe’s” (see comments by Red Wings senior vice president Jimmy Devellano) to believe that a deal was imminent.
Sadly, it was not meant to be, at least for the moment.
Last night grown men stormed out of the meeting like red-faced teenagers being sent to their rooms. From the sound of it, there were some pretty heated exchanges between owners and players.
There was an informal lunch meeting today by members of both sides to determine when they would meet again. nothing was decided, but if they want to keep any kind of momentum they will most likely meet again on Monday.
Many NHL “experts” still believe that there will be hockey in December, and I have the same feelings, but for that to take place the players really have to look at themselves in the mirror.
Yes, the owners made this bed and should be made to sleep in it, but the players must understand that they may have to eat humble pie and get back to playing hockey.
Is this what sports unions were created for? Way back when players were basically owned by the franchises, and barely got paid enough to feed their famalies. Go watch the movie “8 Men Out”, it’s a great flick. It’s a bit different from today when the money the players are fighting for is truly the difference from them being able to buy three Escalades instead of only two.
There are indeed rumblings from within the PA that Donald Fehr may not have the players best interests at heart.
Want to hear more about the owners self-inflicted plight, and the corruption of players unions? Well I will tell you then….in another article later this week.
